 ABOUT US

ALCOHOL AND DRUG CONCERNS FOUNDATION originally called the South Africa Temperance Alliance (S.A.T.A) was established in 1889 by a group of like minded people in Cradock.

People from all walks of life and denominations became alarmed at the ever-increasing scourge of alcohol – especially on farms. It campaigned vigorously against the “dop” system, the banning of liquor at sporting events, etc. A range of publications are in existence documenting the evidence of the initiatives and successes of S.A.T.A.

In 1990 at an Annual General Meeting a decision was taken that the South Africa Temperance Alliance (S.A.T.A) would embrace a name change to Alcohol and Drug Concerns, in order to keep abreast with the times, due to the widespread scourge of hard drugs.

Entrenched into our constitution is the promise that we shall in all ways strive for an alcohol and tobacco free way of life which means the advocating of total abstinence.

OBJECTIVES

1. Education

To educate, empower and encourage children, youth and adults to recognize the importance of making healthy choices, in the context of voluntary abstinence from alcohol, tobacco, caffeine and harmful drugs, because each choice they make has consequences.

2. Awareness

3. Training & Development

To train youth and adults acquiring knowledge on the dangerous effects that intoxicating beverages and harmful drugs have, and thereby developing skills to share this with the broader community.

MISSION

To educate children, youth and adults to prevent substance use
and abuse.

VISION

To provide preventative educational empowerment regarding substance abuse to the wider community, with special emphasis on the youth, irrespective of race, culture, gender, origin or religion and to provide the necessary training.

Our Logo

The family unit is of utmost importance. A healthy family equals a health society. A support structure is also depicted in the logo. Holding hands also indicates walking a journey with someone and collaboration. The cross in the background depicts our ultimate dependence on Christ as a faith based, interdenominational organization.
